The Week Before Your Wedding

The Week Before Your Wedding

Those few weeks before your wedding can be a combination of excitement, stress, fun and nerves for brides and grooms alike. In the capable hands of the Poet’s Lane staff, you don’t have to worry about anything on the day of your wedding. However, there are some important things you can do at home the week before your wedding to help you to de-stress and be perfectly relaxed when the big day finally arrives. Here are some tips from the experts…

Dress rehearsal

You may be keeping your dress locked away in the wardrobe, wrapped in plastic and fabric, the clothing cover never coming off aside from those sneaky peeks you’ve been taking since you bought it – but now is the perfect opportunity to try on that dress one more time before the big day. Put on your dress, your shoes, your jewelry and complete the whole look for the day. Have a walk around the house in your outfit, practice walking down the aisle – and some dance moves for later on in the night too.

Break in your shoes

Even if you plan on packing a separate pair of more comfortable shoes for later in the night that you can keep under the bridal table, it’s still important to break in your fancy shoes. You’ll most likely be wearing these during your ceremony and all your photos. You’ll be spending a lot of this time on your feet walking around to greet guests or standing posing for photos – you’ll want your shoes to feel as comfortable as they can. Start wearing them around the house at the beginning of the week or earlier, and you’ll be well and truly ready by the wedding day.

Clean rings

Your wedding rings may be brand new and unworn, but your engagement ring may not be. It’s a good idea to get all of them cleaned as they will be very important items of jewelry on the day and will feature in a lot of your photos. You’ll want the rings to be sparkling!

Check your inbox

While emails might be the last thing on your mind, and your inbox might be cluttered full of promotional and work items, it’s really good to give them one last check. Search through for items from your vendors, suppliers, and the venue just in case there were some last-minute questions they need you to answer or clarify.

Confirm times

The timeline you made with Poet’s Lane for your wedding will stay the same as your discussions with us, but if changes have been made make sure all your external suppliers are aware of this. It’s also a good idea to confirm the arrival time of the hair and makeup crew, the cake, the DJ, and your photographer just to be sure.

Practise vows out loud

While you may have spent hours writing and re-writing your vows to make them perfect, it’s important to practise them out loud in the week before the wedding. This way you’ll be used to the words without needing to remember them off by heart. Practise in front of the mirror, to the dog or cat, or just when you have a quiet moment to yourself.

Hydration

While it’s important to drink water all the time, in the week before your wedding you can be so busy that you forget to keep hydrated. Making sure you get enough water everyday will help with your skin, keeping stress levels low, and maintaining your general health.

Sleep

Next to drinking lots of water, sleep is the second most important health factor to keep in mind the week before your wedding. Getting enough rest can be tricky during this time as not only may you be busy, but the excitement can keep you awake at night. Meditation before bed is a popular calming method to assist with getting to sleep, as well as reducing screen time before an early night. You want to be nice and rested ahead of the wedding as it is a very long day – especially for the girls.

Put phones on silent or mute social media

If you are busy organizing the last few items, or just trying to relax each night before going to bed, it’s a good idea to switch your phone to silent. Whether you completely silent all calls or just social media notifications is up to you, but sometimes it’s nice to give yourself a break.

Second pair of shoes for later in the night

As we hinted at earlier, having a back-up pair of shoes for later in the night is always a good idea. Even if you’ve broken your shoes in, your wedding day is a long day and you’ll be in these shoes almost from beginning to end. After the bridal waltz, some brides (and grooms) swap into a comfortable pair of flats for the bulk of the dancing. You can leave these hidden under the bridal table to change into whenever you like.

And most importantly….

Remember to have fun – this is going to be a wonderful day. Your family and friends will help you with all of the things that might be making you stressed in the lead up to the wedding, you just have to ask them. You’re in safe hands with the Poet’s Lane team, so relax and soak up every minute of this special day.
